Ben Brown earned a Masters of Arts in U.S. History and a minor in Borderlands from San Francisco State University and began employment with the Clarke Historical Museum in 2008, though he completed an internship at the museum and volunteered for many years beforehand. He grew up in Point Richmond, California and made frequent trips as a child to Humboldt County to visit relatives. Originally hired as the part-time assistant registrar/curator for the Native American section at the museum, Ben simultaneously worked for the Wiyot and Karuk Tribes helping catalogue their collections among other duties. He was promoted to overall director and curator of the Clarke in December of 2012. Ben enjoys working for an organization that puts the community first, whether it’s developing an exhibit for a community-based group or helping individuals connect with their history.
