Clarke Historical Museum AI Policy

Museums are where people go to be reminded of their humanity. Who we have been, who we are, and who we are becoming. In this ever-changing landscape, which prioritizes computer and artificial intelligence, the Clarke Historical Museum takes pride in human work. The Clarke Historical Museum understands that AI is a tool that is currently expanding and growing into every facet of our lives. We as an organization feel that while artificial intelligence has its benefits, there isn’t a place for generative AI in a museum setting–unless AI and its history are the subject of an exhibit. Our curators and staff value facts and accuracy when telling the stories of those who came before us. Removing the “human” from arts and humanities doesn’t align with the Clarke Historical Museum’s mission of increasing knowledge, enriching the spirit, engaging the mind, and stimulating the imagination regarding the history of this region.
Disclosure:
The Clarke Historical Museum will not support the use of generative AI in the art we sell in our gift store. The Clarke Historical Museum will not use generative AI in any promotional materials, social media posts, or exhibits. The Clarke Museum will not display any posters from other organizations that have used generative AI or where we suspect generative AI has been used. If the Clarke Historical Museum ever produces any materials with the assistance of generative AI, there will be a footnote explaining the reason for its usage.
