Saturday Speaker Series

Past Speakers

Saturday Speaker Series:  Steve Lazar & The Humboldt Project.

Picture
Date & Time: Saturday, May 3rd, 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Location: Clarke Historical Museum
Admission: Free

Steve Lazar, founder of The Humboldt Project, a 17-year journey to collect and share Humboldt County's visual history through vintage postcards. Lazar will take us behind the scenes of his extensive online archive, thehumboldtproject.org, which now features thousands of searchable, annotated postcard images, made possible through partnerships with Cal Poly Humboldt’s Cultural Resources Facility and Library Special Collections.
Using the website, Lazar will highlight key photographers, publishers, and tips on dating postcards—unlocking the stories behind these snapshots of Humboldt’s past!  All attendees will get to choose a complimentary postcard from hundreds on hand, reproduced from images in the archive!
A longtime land use planner and former president of the Humboldt County Historical Society, Steve brings decades of local knowledge, curiosity, and a passion sparked by a single vintage postcard in 2006. Don’t miss this unique celebration of our region’s visual history!

This event is a collaboration between the Humboldt County Historical Society, the Humboldt County Library, and the Clarke Historical Museum.
