These are the author's recollections of a frontier childhood and the founding of the first American school and the Baptist mission at Kodiak, Alaska. It was there that Fred learned to speak three languages as he played with the children, and saw the filth, disease and suffering of the people he loved and honored in this beautiful simple, compassionate history of the life and times of Kodiak, with an interlude in Humboldt County.

by Fred Roscoe, edited by Stanley N. Roscoe
