"Eleven" is comprised of interviews featuring eleven WWII veterans from Carrier Air Group 11. Featuring authentic U.S. Navy footage and candid wartime photos, these heroic airmen recount their Naval Aviation tours off Guadalcanal Island and aboard the USS Hornet in the Pacific Theater.
Elio Bertolini (96 years old) from Eureka, CA contacted Bay Area filmmaker George Retelas about his WWII documentary "Eleven" a documentary about the veterans that served with his late-grandfather. Bertolini read about the project in the San Francisco Chronicle, and Bertolini being a die-hard Giant's fan saw the front page story and recognized a picture of the filmmaker's grandfather of the same name as they both served in WWII together at Guadalcanal. Bertolini held onto the article since Memorial Day 2016 until his wife Janice Bertolini urged him to make contact with the grandson of his fellow airman last week. Retelas will be showing a free screening of "Eleven" with Bertolini at the Clarke Museum Aug 19th at 1pm.
