Quilting is both a utilitarian skill and an art form that can tie together the stories of the women and communities that make them. Quilting in Humboldt County helped bring women into informal and formal communities for social support. These groups provided arenas for women to flex their influence, build up their communities through fundraising, and promote political agendas outside of the public sphere.
